    Seattle Conference Declaration
    This conference has been founded on the certainty that people with disabilities have the same rights as other citizens to freedom, equality, equal protection under the law, and control over their own lives.  These rights must be honored if people who have disabilities are to be fully included as valued citizens in the relationships and opportunities of community life.

     

    Cerbranetics Institute
    1997 the Cerbranetics Institute developed a series of special reading lessons based on Phonics. Teachers using those lessons found that they spent less time with each student and got better overall reading results. Since then we have been producing and testing curriculum to help students recognize familiar and new words at a faster rate.

     

    Self Help for Hard of Hearing People
    Our goal is to enhance the quality of life for people who are hard of hearing. We are proud of the efforts of our 250 affiliates located in towns like yours and mine advocating, educating and helping one another with hearing loss.

    Access America
    July 26, 2000, marks the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act. In celebration of this milestone, the Office of Disability Employment Policy created this site, www.disabilitydirect.gov, to provide one-stop online access to resources, services, andPart of the New Freedom Initiative information available throughout the Federal government.

     

    Olmstead Decision web site
    In July 1999, the Supreme Court issued the Olmstead v. L. C. decision. The Court's decision in that case clearly challenges Federal, state, and local governments to develop more opportunities for individuals with disabilities through more accessible systems of cost-effective community-basedHCFA logo: Return to home page services.

     

    CHANCE
    The Center for Housing and New Community Economics (CHANCE) was established in March of 2001. CHANCE's mission is to improve and increase access to integrated, affordable, and accessible housing coordinated with, but separate from, personal assistance and supportive services. CHANCE's purpose will be to offer alternatives to approaches that segregate, congregate, and control people with disabilities. The IOD will work in partnership with ADAPT in all aspects of the Center. ADAPT is a national organization that focuses onLogo of chance: a house with the words center for housing and new community economics promoting services in the community for people with disabilities.
