    MOCHA

The mission of MOCHA is to improve the quality of life for developmentally disabled adults while providing a support and information network for their mentors.

    Vision:
The vision shared by MOCHA members includes the creation of an extended family for their disabled adult children, which will provide friendship and support throughout their lives.  In addition, MOCHA will furnish a strong information network and support system for their parents and mentors.

    People:
MOCHA is an organization of mentors,  parents, guardians and friends of challenged adults who need access to a support and information network which will help them understand the complex issues involved in maintaining an acceptable quality of life.

    Benefits:
MOCHA strives to strengthen the psychological well-being of each challenged adult, expand his or her interpersonal relationships, eliminate social isolation, enhancing all aspects of independent living skills, which may include areas of personal, religious, and cultural development.

    What MOCHA Does:
MOCHA meets bi-monthly to address key issues.  Guest speakers discuss such topics as Social Security benefits, residential living, transportation, wills and trusts, vocational rehabilitation issues, legislative and aging challenges, as well as pertinent information about services that are currently available.  The challenged adults have a scheduled activity in an adjoining room with a member of the therapeutic staff, who assists and directs them in a time of socializing with their peers.  In addition, MOCHA plans scheduled outings for its member families.

MOCHA sponsors a Special Olympics Program, year-round training for athletes who are mentally challenged.  Another successful project is MOCHA's recent partnership with El Rio Health Center, which resulted in CON ToDOS, the Collaboration and Development of Outreach Services to the Hispanic Population.

    The Goals of MOCHA
MOCHA has set specific goals in the areas of housing, vocations, education, and social activity, which will improve the quality of life for developmentally disabled adults.

Housing: MOCHA will pursue a plan for housing for disabled adults, to provide supported living and help them experience the give and take of relationships within families, neighborhoods and communities - relationships that offer support and care as well as friendships, a sense of purpose and belonging, and a feeling of being important and valued. It is MOCHA's initiative to provide a program that will support individuals living together in a safe, clean, loving, and caring experience.

Vocations: MOCHA will explore various vocational options that offer a wide range of possibilities for challenged adults.

Transportation Advocacy: MOCHA will advocate to improve services for vocational and recreational needs.

Education: MOCHA will work with Pima Community College to develop classes for adults with developmental disabilities.

Social Activity: MOCHA will continue to provide challenged adults with opportunities for social interaction through bi-monthly meetings and scheduled special events. MOCHA's ongoing endeavors will continually expand its information network and support system, through the newsletter and other timely publications, through scheduled meetings and events, and growing community awareness and involvement.
